Finally! After six months of doing the electric slide, we got it apart!

You actually can remove the panel without opening the door first on this baby. After that I reached through and pulled the damn rod down and popped it open. Sure enough after repeated locking and unlocking, it bound up again several times.

From what I can see, there is obvious slack in all the moving parts from extreme use. The cylinder is wearing out. Ever spring and knuckle was bone dry, so I lubed them up and it has made a world of difference. That will stave it off for hopefully for a few more years.

The window had fallen out of the regulator the same day the door stopped working, I got new channel, siliconed the inside, hammered the glass in tight with a piece of 2x4 wedging up the bottom and keeping the track level, then siliconed the new channel to the side of the glass as well (effectively just a bead). This is the same method I used for the other window.

Now to wait for the silicone to dry for 72 hours. In the meantime I'm not putting the panel until I feel comfortable that the lock won't seize again after 10 uses.

Tom and Ray would tell you to throw the panel away - it'll never fit right again.

Nice! In the spirit of sharing, I will share the achievement I unlocked today on my project Camaro. I installed a shock absorber! Lord that sounds easy, but one of the bolts had broken off when I was removing the old one (the previous owner had put air shocks on to compensate for worn out springs). I tried every method known to man to get that broken bolt out with absolutely no luck. I even broke a bolt extractor off inside the bolt to give it a nice hardened steel core. I ended up buying a hard core drill bit and drilling the fucking thing out and tapping new threads. I think the final count was at least half a dozen drill bits ruined, and two different kinds of bolt removers trashed. My shoulders aren't doing all that well either.

I know the feels. The simplest of tasks often turn out to be completely horrible, don't they? Usually caused by a rusty screw or things inexplicably not fitting.

I told you I was never going to sell this thing. I will hold it together with silicone until it turns to dust.

Yep, rusted bolts and screws are the worst. I don't know how many cans of PB Blaster I've gone through on this car but I think the stack of empty cans could be seen from space.

You know since you've got one door open you might do the passenger side too.
